Judith Davis is a Professor Emerita of French and Humanities.
Finding Mary tells and interprets stories about the Virgin Mary that were told and written from early Christianity until now. She is presented as a woman of power and agency who works for the redemption of all in partnership with her son Jesus. The miracle tales about her are still told today--on the Internet, in art works, and in films. I started collecting stories about Mary 25 years ago or more; the book came out of a series.
My career at GC included some years in College Relations, where I edited publications and wrote grants. (My favorite grants generated financial support for the Mennonite Historical Library.) I also had a gratifying number of years teaching courses from beginning French to Books and Ideas as well as classes in Women's Studies. I led an SST to Guadeloupe in the French West Indies, where I learned about racism of different kinds. One of my students was Sofia Samatar, who is now an internationally recognized writer.
Cristóbal Garza González is Assistant Professor of Spanish.
Julia Schiavone Camacho is a Professor of History.
Greg Sommers is the Student Accounts Manager.
Greg's written for a string of local productions, both at the Elkhart Civic Theater and Goshen Theater. In addition to his behind the scenes work, he occasionally dusts off his improv skills to help lead a workshop, record a podcast (Improvably Bad Books), or perform on stage. Greg is also the Role Playing Game Club sponsor on campus. Never ask him about the Gavel of DOOM.
