Finding Mary tells and interprets stories about the Virgin Mary that were told and written from early Christianity until now. She is presented as a woman of power and agency who works for the redemption of all in partnership with her son Jesus. The miracle tales about her are still told today--on the Internet, in art works, and in films. I started collecting stories about Mary 25 years ago or more; the book came out of a series.

My career at GC included some years in College Relations, where I edited publications and wrote grants. (My favorite grants generated financial support for the Mennonite Historical Library.) I also had a gratifying number of years teaching courses from beginning French to Books and Ideas as well as classes in Women's Studies. I led an SST to Guadeloupe in the French West Indies, where I learned about racism of different kinds. One of my students was Sofia Samatar, who is now an internationally recognized writer.
