Assignment

Develop a culturally appropriate intervention for a particular population at risk with the focus on health promotion/ disease prevention using principles of population assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation using evidenced based research.

Select a culturally diverse population of your choice (Latino/Latina, African American, Asian, Amish) and research the following health problem options:

  • mental health
  • heart disease
  • obesity
  • reproductive health
  • diabetes/metabolic syndrome.

Collect data that informs the purpose of the paper

  1. General overview of the community of interest
  2. General demographic data
  3. Specific data about the problem or topic of interest
  4. Comparison of data across groups, for example:
  • Comparison of federal, state, and local data
  • Comparison of data over time
  • Comparison of data across genders

Citing Data Sets

Data Sets: Give the name of the researching organization followed by the date. In brackets, provide a brief explanation of what type of data is there and in what form it appears. Finally, provide the project name and retrieval information. Point readers to raw data by providing a Web address (use "Retrieved from") or a general place that houses data sets on the site (use "Available from").
