Lesson - Contacting a Research Librarian

In the previous sections of library training you have learned about the different resources available to you through the Goshen College Library as an online student.  As an online student you are able to access the exact same resources as on campus students.  A resource that is perhaps as important as the books and articles available to you is the research librarian.

Librarians can serve as an invaluable resource as you journey through your academic program, serving you as a research coach. They can help you find specific resources, help focus topics, and talk through the various research questions you may have. Librarians can also help with citations, including in text citations, reference pages, and using citation generator tools.

While you may not be able to visit the research librarian at the Ask Desk in person on the Goshen you can contact us through various other means.

  • E-mail: e-mail the librarians individually or through our shared email library@goshen.edu
  • Chat with a Librarian: librarians at the Ask Desk are available through virtual chat.  Look for the Chat with a Librarian box on the far right hand column of the library website to talk with a librarian through this method.

Activity - Online Library Instruction -- Contacting a Research Librarian

In this course your are writing about nursing issues important to you.  Librarians can assist you in finding the best resources available to you about this and other nursing related issues.  

For this lesson, contact a research librarian by e-mailing library@goshen.edu with a issue that you plan to write about in this course.  Ask the librarian what available resources are available on this issue, specifically for

  • one book
  • one research article

One of the Goshen College librarians will respond back to you with a answer.  Once completed, forward the email conversation with the librarian onto your instructor.
