Scholarly/peer-reviewed journals are frequently required for academic research projects. Many databases allow you to limit your search to these journals. If you're not sure, check this list of attributes to help you determine if your article is from a scholarly/peer-reviewed journal.

There are also jouirnals and magazines that aren't scholarly/peer reviewed but are generally respected and may be acceptable as references in some types of undergraduate papers. Unlike scholarly journals, however, it is difficult to compile an authoritative list of characteristics of these sources, and what is acceptable will vary from assignment to assignment.  When evaluating any source, it is best to evaluate the source on its reliability, authory, accuracy, and bias.

Here are just a few of these sources that provide credible news, commentary, interviews and/or informed treatment of issues. These sources have a range of political and editorial biases, so when in doubt, always ask your professor if a particular sources is acceptable to use for your assignment.
