Nursing Resources for Glen Oaks Students: OPEN ACCESS

Nursing library resources available for nursing students at Glen Oaks Community College

WHAT IS OPEN ACCESS?

Open access (OA) is a publishing practice that allows digital, online access to articles and book chapters free of charge and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions.

OA articles may either be published in open access journals, or, they may be self-archived by the author in an open access repository like the Plowshares Digital Archive for Peace Studies, the Social Science Resarch Network, SSRN, or the Cornell University hosted arXiv.

OA is entirely compatible with peer review, and all the major OA initiatives for scientific and scholarly literature insist on its importance. Read a brief introduction to OA here

WHERE CAN I SEARCH OA TITLES IN NURSING?

Many open access titles in nursing are indexed in CINAHL.  They are also indexed in PubMed.org, which comprises more than 23 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books.

Also, the Nursing and Health Care Gateway highlights the latest nursing articles published by Open Access publisher BioMed Central.
