Coronavirus (COVID-19) Disruption

Library Services During Coronavirus (COVID-19) Disruption

How to request a book

Anyone with a Goshen College username and password can request a book either in our physical collection, or create an interlibrary loan request for a book that we don't own.

Here are the full instructions on using our catalog to place a hold on a book.

A hold for an item that is currently available should take 1 business day or less. A request for a book through interlibrary loan may take up to a week and a half to be ready. For more about our interlibrary loan policies, go here.

Note: MHL circulating items can be obtained in the same manner. Access to the MHL space, however, is by appointment only.

How to return a book

I have book due soon, should I keep it or return it?
If you are getting overdue notifications or have specific questions, please contact us at interlibrary@goshen.edu or fill out this form to request a renewal.

However, if you are finished with the book, you have a few options for returning the book:

  • If you live in Goshen or easy driving distance to Goshen. Feel free to drop the book off in our book drop which is located in the wall directly to the right of the main doors at the Good Library.
  • If you live in the state of Indiana, you can reach out to your local public or academic library to see if they are participating in the Indiana State Library InfoExpress "Return Anywhere" program. This project allows patron to return books from any Indiana library to any Indiana library. While you are still responsible for the book if it gets lost in transit, this allows patrons from across the state to use their local library to return books.
  • If you live out of state. You can mail the book back to the library using Media Mail. This is an inexpensive way to ship books through the USPS, which you can learn more about here (scroll down the page). A few quick notes about mailing:
    • Media Mail starts at $2.80 for the first pound and goes up by around $.50 for each additional pound.
    • You will need to include only books in the package and you will need to use a box or padded envelope to ship your books back.
    • Use this address:
      Good Library Interlibrary Loan
      1700 S Main St
      Goshen IN 46526

How to renew a book

Is there a place I can easily see all the books I have checked out and when they are due?
Yes, go to My Library Account and sign in with your Goshen College username and password. From there you can see all of the books you have checked out. You can also see what holds you have in the system and if the book is available. You can also renew books by clicking on the Renew button. You can use this feature 2 times and if you need a book longer than that, contact librarycirc@goshen.edu. If you need to renew an Interlibrary loan book (anything with a book band or PALShare sticker on the cover) please email us at interlibrary@goshen.edu and or fill out the Interlibrary Loan Renewal form to get a renewal.
